Create a Link to a Point On The Same Page-HTML Tutorial

Normally we create links to either link the pages within a our site or to build links with other externally. But what if we create a link within a page so that the reader could jump to that particular point just by clicking that link. This is a simple HTML tutorial and will be easy to follow. So lets get started.

Demo Link

Step 1: Make a link

First we will start by making links that we want to later link to. In the demo link you would have seen different paragraphs that were linked too using the links in the starting.

First start by making a link on the place you want to jump to. As in my case, ill be putting a link on this page's Edit HTML option right at the end as i want the link to take us right at the end of the page. So for this use a link as follows.

<a name="End"></a>

As you see the word 'End' in the above code, its the name i have allotted to this link that would take us at the end. I choose this name so that i would remember it easily. It can be a random name and i would have chosen 'Bla Bla' too. The working of the link would doesn't change.

Where to add this link?

Now move to the 'Edit HTML' of the post that you are writing. And paste this link just above any paragraph or line that you want to link to. Give any name instead of 'End', that you like.

Step 2: Link to it

How to link this 'link'?

So now as we have pasted this link before the paragraph that we want to link to, its time to make a link in the beginning of the post like a table of contents. Place the following link in the starting.

<a href="#End">End</a>

Notice that there is a hash (#) sign behind 'End' that you must not forget to write other wise it wont work. Also make sure that the name you have given to the link before for a particular place in the content should exactly match this link. This would let the code recognize the other link that you want to link to.

The 'End' in blue simply gives the name to the link so that people would know that it would take at the end. You would have given any name to this like 'My Dog' but how would people get to know that it would take him at the end. So its normally related to the link.

Say this is a paragraph that i want to link to. So ill place a link just before it in the Edit HTML like this.

<a name="LOL"></a>
Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para
Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para
Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para Test para test para

Now ill make a link for it at the starting of the post so that people could come directly to this post by clicking it. And for that ill paste the second code in the starting of the content.

Hope that was pretty easy. For any problems comment below.
