Previously (in case you don't use this meta tag), any one could pin your blog's images on their Pinterest profiles. If you're not owner of the image, then there is certainly no issue on your side, but its a great pain in ass for the original content creator who worked hours and hours to built a certain quality images, graphic etc
So there is one to opt out of the Pinterest thing. But again, thats not the complete solution as you, as a webmaster would certainly love to use the newly built social media to drive traffic to your blog and by using this particular meta tag, you would close all the traffic gates that many people are using to get mega traffic to their online endeavours.
Below is the meta tag that you need to use.
Restrict Pinterest To Access Your Blog
Add the following meta tag to your blog's <head> section.
<meta name="pinterest" content="nopin" />Even though that seems award to opt out of something that you never opted in for! But thats the case with Pinterest. You dont need to be on the social platform to distribute the images that you used on the blog. Once you would add the above meta tag on your blog/site, each time a visitor would try to pin a certain image, it would give him the message as follows:
This site doesn't allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!
