8) John D. Rockefeller

He got his education from local institutes until he was sixteen. That was the time when he dropped out of school and started working towards the goal of his life – to earn $100000.

Rockefeller made his mark in the oil industry. He founded the Standard Oil Company which dominated the oil industry at the time. The goal he set in his life appeared to be too high but he was able to achieve that through thorough hardships and by 1902, he had $200 million to his name.

Yup, we have another John with us. John Glenn was born in July 1921 in Cambridge, Ohio. He studied science at Muskingum College. But when the Japanese bombed the Pearl Harbor, he dropped out of college and enlisted himself in the US Army Air Corps so as to fight the World War II.

Despite the fact that he had not even received a simple college degree, in 1959, he was assigned to the NASA as one of the seven astronauts that were chosen for the Project Mercury. He became the first American to orbit the Earth. No doubt Glenn was a college drop-out- he served in the skies until his death and became a part of THE most important NASA missions.

In 1972, he went to Reed College but soon dropped-out, in 1974. He is distinctly the most influential mind of the past century.

In 1976, Steve Jobs founded Apple Inc. He started off with basic computer products but soon started work on the revolutionary products like the iPod, iPhone and iPad. One may say that you need to have a good quality education for such a job but Steve Jobs proves it wrong. He was always against the School Education as they are inhospitable environments for aspiring entrepreneurs, he said.

Mark initially worked as a typesetter and wrote articles for a newspaper. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River. He had the minimal formal education that one can think of but was also eager to read everything he could get his hands on. He started writing as a teenager, without having much writing knowledge, but then undoubtedly became one of the greatest writers to date.

Henry’s father was a farmer and wanted his son to take his place when he grew old. But henry had other plans in mind. He left home at an age of seventeen and became an apprentice with a machinist. Despite the fact that he did not get any actual education, he created the mechanized assembly line which gave the automobile industry a big boost.

Little is known about the education of Shakespeare. Scholars suggest that he attended the King’s New School but dropped out at the age of thirteen. The fact that he wrote over hundreds of best-selling novels and was an early school drop-out is indeed surprising and at the same time mind-blowing.

Lincoln was born to a poor family on the western frontier of US. He did not receive any real education. Lincoln was wholly self-educated and never went to any school or college. Despite this, he became a country lawyer, a Whig Party leader, Illinois state legislator and a one term member of the US House of Representatives.

This might sound to be fake but is actually true. The genius Albert Einstein who revolutionized the modern physics by his intense research was not much of a student. The man who defined quantum physics, who discovered Brownian motion, who published more than 300 scientific papers and won the Nobel Prize was as a matter of fact, a high school drop-out.

Einstein made numerous contribution to science. Scientists believe his brain to be many times efficient as compared to the most intelligent person that exists today. This is why his brain was also removed from his body for analysis however, was reported to be stolen later on. Einstein was one of the few geniuses of history who invented a lot without even getting a proper college education.
