In the current times, interview is considered to be the most effective method of judging a person psychologically. No matter how skilled a person may seem, his interview is what unleashes the actual person inside. Though used generally for conversation, interview can be considered as the top tool for identifying a person as a whole.
However, not all the time during an interview, you have a stronger position than the interviewer. In the job hiring procedures, such a confused situation will definitely lead to rejection unless you know certain tactics that can help you salvage yourself and gain the position. These tactics are also what the interviewer would want you to expose.
Let’s take a look at some of the DOs and DON’Ts that you must follow during an interview that is not going in your favor.
Take The Lead
Instead of just waiting for a question by the interviewer and then answering it, try to initiate a conversation yourself. For example, if the interviewer asks you about your experience in the field, feel free to mention some of the most notable achievements of yours also. Drive the interview and not do not get driven by him all the time. This makes you something more than the usual robot people act like during an interview by directly answering what they are asked.
Analyze The Situation
When you feel like the interview is not going your way, try to take a moment and analyze the situation. You should be able to figure out what you are doing wrong and before answering the next question that comes up, try not to repeat the same mistake. You should think very carefully before speaking anything because what you say, matters.
Follow Up The Usual WayIf the interview does not go well, there is no need to panic or give up as yet as this is by no means effective in such a situation. Instead, you should act normal. Your temperament after a failed and successful interview should be the same and no, there is no need of telling everyone how bad you are at giving an interview. You never know how you went until you get the final answer so wait, and stay cool.
Hesitate To Change The Topic
If you feel like the tactic or strategy you were using during the interview is not really amusing for the interviewer and that you should change it instead of thinking that it might put a bad impression. NO it will not put a bad impression. For example, if you had been all witty and humorous but the interviewer does not seem to like that attitude, simply turn serious or as you find appropriate considering the situation.
Say It All
Most of the times, you would realize what is causing the confusion between you and the interviewer but instead of specifically mentioning it and make it inevitable, just let it go. An awkward situation is not really awkward unless someone explicitly calls it that, so never try to be such a person as this would only make things worse. Just stay calm and let the confusions pass.
Take It Personally
Instead of taking the silent and dangerous expression of the interviewer to heart, take it as a test. This usually is a tactic used by interviewers so as to demotivate the interviewee. You might be telling the most epic story of yours yet receive no suitable response but this is just normal. Do not underestimate yourself or lose hope. Focus on YOUR strategy and do not get affected by the strategies used by your interviewer.
